Leader leaves on a sour note…
Our dwarf’s fey mood has produced another magnificent artifact! This one is worthy of me!
We’re looking good to be here for a while now again!
Rock of Chewing has initiated the canal project to irrigate the new farm areas. A channel has been designated to be dug out. Walls have are under constructions to control the waters. Two pumps will be built to pump the water out from the brook and into the canal.
Additional free loaders have arrived. I guess someone found out we have booze now. Frick. Nothing particularly impressing. A half decent mason and potash worker. We’ll need the potash soon enough for the farms. There’s a solid siege operator too, so perhaps its time to commission some ballistas and catapults for defence? Pick off those goblin vermin from a distance I say!
The caverns are becoming more treacherous! Another forgotten beast as been seen lurking. Ancient stories tell of an enormous poisonous sea monster!
There is talk amongst the fort folk. “Where is our army?” appears to be the question straining their minds. Warmongering dwarves. There are bigger fish to fry still. We can hold out a little while yet. We have time!
Winter is here. The canal has frozen over. The irrigation project will need to wait till the next year but we have more than enough food and drink to last till spring. The fortress will be secure, at least as far as food is concerned.
My latest refusal to commission an army has caused me to fall out of favour with the dwarves in the fort. We’ve been here almost 2 years. In that time, we’ve seen two forgotten beasts that may have easily wiped out our fort if not for good masonry preventing them from entering our home. The goblins cannot be far behind. I understand their concerns but I do not believe they pose a threat just yet.
But the pressure is mounting and the majority have asked for my resignation as leader. I’ve convinced them to let me stay till the end of the year. In exchange, I have appointed Tulon Solonostar as the commander of all future armies of the Rock of Chewing. He will carry the rank of Field Marshall and organise our defence.
Lokum Ogredkeskal has been missing for over a week. I fear the worst, he was last seen operating the pumps, trying to get water up to the farms. There as some flooding when the winter came and froze the canal, I believe he has been lost to the waters. This is another dark day for the Rock of Chewing and it has all but ended my hopes to continue as leader in the new year. We will honour our dead, a memorial will be built.
The last fey mood of the year by the looks of it. One of our senior mining expert’s mind was taken over earlier today. It appears he’s embarked on a complicated masoning trial!
A terrible mining accident has occured. Two dwarves have been crushed to death. It appears they were too zealous, they removed all the supporting dirt and the ceiling gave way. Our legendary animal trainer was among the fallen. The year is at end as are my days as governor of this colony. It vexes me that it must end at such a sad note. My reign as ruler has been tainted with the loss of 3 dwarves. But I take solace in the knowledge that the Rock of Chewing will endure, we have food and drink aplenty. Our armies will soon be well armed, our farms will be ready and we will continue to explore the riches the world has to offer. By Zas’ name, we will conquer the depths. As is our birthright!
I’ve filled out the queues for the workshops/forges that need things built. I don’t yet have a hospital going. We need traction benches and soap for those. The military is kinda started. I’ve assigned 4 dwarves to a squad, gave them all metal armor and assigned a specific weapon. The leader is currently carrying our legendary battle axe. Hopfully he’s badass.
Also, now that the water is starting to melt. the two pumps outside near the farm are both active, keep an eye on it, they will pump and flood the area until tell them to stop, i lost a guy because of this. Our food reserves are solid, but the drink area is still flaky.
The dining area currently seats 36. If you notice more than 36 idle, then expand the dining room. I’ve got 2 small food/drink piles there. The rest of the food is by the kitchen. I planned to make your old food pile by the old dining room into a hospital. We need a well or a cistrine still.
A new area for leather/clothes working is also setup, its next to the kitchen.
The new dining/bedroom/noble bedrooms starts at Z layer 16
Suggestions going forward: Complete irrigation of the farms. Get the livestock to safety (inside the fort or build walls around them. Build hospital & well. Keep an eye on drinks.
